There are multiple ways to earn an undergraduate degree in chemistry at Texas A&M University. First you will choose which degree program will work best for you — the Bachelor of Science or the Bachelor of Arts. Next, you will choose which track will work best for your interests.

Bachelor of Science in Chemistry

The Bachelor of Science program will give you a comprehensive, solid foundation in all the major branches of chemistry. You will also enjoy individualization through involvement in exciting, innovative, state-of-the-art research programs.

Most students in the program become involved in research during their junior year and continue this until graduation. Students often receive research scholarships and fellowships, which include opportunities for summer research programs. Undergraduate chemistry majors have even had the opportunity to be a coauthor of scientific publications in major research journals before graduation.

Undergraduate chemistry research activities involve substantial use of modern scientific equipment, including major instrumentation. Students involved in undergraduate research also gain considerable insight into the profession through substantial individual contact with chemistry department faculty.

Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry

The Bachelor of Arts program will give you a firm and broadly-based foundation in chemistry. This program is the most flexible option for a chemistry degree because it includes a generous number of electives and requires a minor from another discipline.

You will gain a secondary area of specialization through the minor requirement. This allows you to combine chemistry with an interest in subject areas such as biochemistry, biology, business, computer science, education, forensics, medicine or physics.

University-Approved Minors

Although not required for the program, abundant research opportunities are available to students. The program also permits and encourages non-technical elective courses.
