Biography

Dr. Morales employs humanistic and social science qualitative methods to explore transnational flows of media and the platformization of cultural practices and communities, particularly in the context of national and diasporic identity formation within Latin America, the Caribbean, and their diasporas in the United States. Her research sits at the intersection of Cultural Studies, Digital Media and Emergent Technologies, and Global Communication.

Her current book project examines the contemporary transnational networks of Cuban popular culture, and how Cubans harness the poetics and politics of networked digital technologies to express individual and collective aspirations. She received her PhD in Communication from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania.
