Following a national search, Dr. Simon North has been named Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University. 

Dr. North has served as Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences since September 2025 and has spent nearly three decades advancing the university’s mission of teaching, research and service. He is the John W. Bevan Professor of Chemistry and previously served as Executive Associate Dean in the College, as well as Head of the Department of Chemistry. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for fostering a culture of connection, strengthening collegiality, and advancing transparency—creating opportunities for individuals and academic units to reach their full potential. 

“As the intellectual heart of the university, the College of Arts & Sciences has long stood as a cornerstone of this institution, driven by ambition, guided by tradition, and united in the belief that our work can shape a better world,” said North. “I am proud to serve as dean and to champion the research, teaching, and service that ignite curiosity, empower future leaders, and strengthen the communities we are called to serve.” 

Dr. North steps into the role at a time of significant growth and opportunity. Building on recent progress, his leadership will focus on advancing a clear and intentional vision for the future—one that amplifies excellence in scholarly activity, elevates undergraduate engagement and success, and prepares graduate students for impactful careers. The College will also continue to expand its contributions across Texas and nation while strengthening a culture that values its people and mission. 

Guided by the College’s Strategic Plan, this work will further position Arts and Sciences to achieve new levels of distinction and impact. By enhancing connection and visibility among its stakeholders and fostering collaboration across disciplines, the College is well positioned to address some of society’s most pressing challenges.
