Research Interests

Dr. Bottera leads a research program focused on improving the assessment and treatment of eating disorders, with a particular emphasis on binge eating and co-occurring sleep and other circadian disturbances. Her work examines how daily rhythms in eating, sleep, and appetite contribute to eating disorder symptoms, with the goal of identifying novel and more effective treatment targets.

Her research also focuses on expanding access to care through innovative mobile-health (mHealth) approaches. Overall, Dr. Bottera aims to improve eating disorder and related mental health treatment outcomes and evidence-based treatments by harnessing mHealth technology and implementation science techniques within clinical trials.

In addition to treatment development, Dr. Bottera collaborates on projects aimed at improving how eating disorders are assessed and identified in both research and clinical settings, with the goal of creating clinically useful tools that enhance identification, monitoring, and treatment planning.

Dr. Bottera’s research has been funded by the Department of Defense (DoD), National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), and American Heart Association (AHA).
