How We Started

The idea for a pantry available to ALL students was a dream for a while. The Economics Advising Team is located on West Campus, and is pretty isolated from the rest of campus, so when needs are identified we need them soon and not to tell students to make the long haul back to Main Campus.

Academic Advisors attended a conference February 2024 and were talking about the dream on their way home. Upon their return they asked the Assistant Department Head how to turn it into a reality. Practically the next day, he was cleaning out the storage closet in the Advising Suite that IT was using and we got started asking for donations. Doors officially opened August 19, 2024 with donations collected over the summer of 2024 from Economics faculty and staff along with Texas A&M resources. It has been amazing and eye opening to see the impact it has made on Texas A&M students.

Who We Serve

The Pantry is open to all students at Texas A&M University, regardless of major or classification. Students use the pantry as needed and without questions asked from our team.

Pantry Donations

We started with donations from The Department's faculty and staff. The Pantry is associated with the Pocket Pantries of Texas A&M, so some funding comes from that pool. Additionally, We received donations that exceeds $1,100 in value from the Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union, Hormel and our Amazon Wishlist.
