The American Psychological Association has designated this week, April 20-26th to be Psychology Week! In honor of this Psychology Week, we are highlighting each of the 5 areas of psychology in which our department specializes. Today, we shine a spotlight on our Clinical area.
-
The Brazos County Detention Center by providing in-person & telehealth appointments for incarcerated individuals with a wide-range of mental health concerns. We also consult with & provide care information to the medical and administrative staff to improve the services array for these individuals.
-
The Brazos County Mental Health Court by consulting with an inter-agency team over the past 6 months to develop an adjudication system for individuals with severe mental health conditions some who are arrested for alleged crimes. When grant funds hopefully earned in Fall 2025, we expect to consult regarding data tracking, management, & evaluation to refine the implementation of this system of adjudication & care delivery.
To expand on what our psychology clinic can offer, our Clinic Director, Dr. Kristy Cuthbert said that "the TAMU Psychology Clinic offers mental health assessment and treatment to TAMU students and the local community. We specialize in short-term, change-focused treatments tailored to each of our patients. We utilize treatments that are backed by research, and we offer low-cost sliding scale fees for our community members with low income and no access to insurance. Our student clinicians are dedicated to providing stellar clinical care and receive supervision from faculty members who lead research on the treatments we offer."
Elaborating on our Clinical program, Dr. Anka Vujanovic, Director of Clinical Training, stated, "clinical faculty are leading research in traumatic stress, depression, suicidology, violence, health, and chronic pain across the lifespan. We use cutting edge methodologies to explore minds and enhance lives. We work with children, youth, young adults, first responders, military veterans and service members, community members, college students, spinal cord injury survivors, trafficked persons, among others."
Our clinical faculty focus on work and research seeking to improve countless lives every day, and our department is truly lucky to have them all find their home here at Texas A&M University.
We cannot be more proud of our Clinical team of hard working, dedicated psychologists and all the work they do in their research and fields. Gig em!
