The Department of Oceanography provides exceptional interdisciplinary teaching and research in biological oceanography, chemical oceanography, geological oceanography and physical oceanography. By advancing discovery and understanding of the ocean sciences, technology and resources, we are preparing the next generation of citizens and ocean scientists for the challenges facing a growing human population with limited resources and a reliance on the oceans.

Our faculty and students strategically collaborate with ocean scientists throughout the Texas A&M University System, including the Marine Biology and Marine and Coastal Environmental Sciences departments at Texas A&M Galveston, the Texas A&M Geochemical and Environmental Research Group (GERG), the Gulf of Mexico Coastal Ocean Observing System (GCOOS), the Gulf Coast Core Repository and Texas Sea Grant.

Set Sail With Texas A&M Oceanography

From hands-on research at sea to uncovering ocean mysteries and developing solutions for the good of society, our students learn by doing. Big discoveries start at Texas A&M Oceanography.

Dive into Investigative Research

The Department of Oceanography explores the world to investigate the defining questions of the oceans’ future, present and past. The interdisciplinary work being done by the researchers in the department is more relevant and crucial than ever before. The faculty in the Department of Oceanography are making global strides in their research areas, participating in active research programs around the world.
