Double Major/Double Degree in Psychology

Double Major/Double Degree candidates will follow their existing catalog for the Psychology Major. Candidates are required to have completed  PBSI/PYSC coursework prior to your application
  • 9 hours of PSYC/PBSI coursework MUST APPLY toward your current major degree. 
  • No more than 30 hours of PBSI/PSYC coursework can fall in the Work Not Applied area.   

Double Major

Requirements to declare:

  • Less than 90 completed hours (including transfer credit, IB, AP, dual credit, and CLEP)
  • Double major/Double degree requires 9 hours of PSYC/PBSI coursework completed prior to application
    • 3 hours PSYC/PBSI 107 (can be transferred from a junior college or accepted via AP/IB credit)
    • 3 hours PSYC/PBSI 235 (can be transferred from a junior college)
    • 3 hours PSYC/PBSI 245 (can be transferred from a junior college)
    • of the 9 hours must be graded from TAMU
    • if all 9 hrs are transfer credit, IB, AP, or dual credit, then an additional 3 hrs of PBSI coursework must be taken and graded from TAMU prior to application
  • 3.0 PSYC/PBSI GPA
  • 3.0 overall TAMU GPA
  • BS-BCNS, NRSC-BCN/MCB, BS-FIVS: Pre Law Emphasis majors – MAY NOT add a double major in PSYC.

Double Degree

  • Less than 90 completed hours (including transfer credit, IB, AP, dual credit, and CLEP)
  • Double major/Double degree requires 9 hours of PSYC/PBSI coursework completed prior to application
    • 3 hours PSYC/PBSI 107 (can be transferred from a junior college or accepted via AP/IB credit)
    • 3 hours PSYC/PBSI 235 (can be transferred from a junior college)
    • 3 hours PSYC/PBSI 245 (can be transferred from a junior college)
    • of the 9 hours must be graded from TAMU
    • if all 9 hrs are transfer credit, IB, AP, or dual credit, then an additional 3 hrs of PBSI coursework must be taken and graded from TAMU prior to application
  • 3.0 PSYC/PBSI GPA
  • 3.0 overall TAMU GPA
  • Per Student Rule 14.4.5 – Courses may be used to satisfy the requirements for both degrees. However, the total semester hours required must be at least 30 semester hours in addition to the greater number of hours required for either degree. At least 12 hours of 300- and 400-level course work must be completed in each field of study.
  • BS-BCNS, NRSC-BCN majors – MAY NOT add a double degree in PSYC
  • NRSC-MCB, BS-FIVS: Pre Law Emphasis majors – MAY add a double degree in PSYC; please verify with your current advisor that if the double degree is added, you will be able to meet the “additional 30 hrs over their current major hour limit” rule.  

Double Major/Double Degree in Behavioral Cognitive Neurosciences

Interested students must meet with a PBSI advisor first.

Double Major

Double majors with BS-BCNS are NOT allowed for any major

 

Double Degree

Double degree requires 17 hours of the following coursework completed  prior to your applicationRequirements to declare:
  • 3.0 overall TAMU GPA
  • less than 75 completed hours -including transfer credit, IB, AP, dual credit, and CLEP
  • A grade of a 'B' or better or better is required for ALL prerequisite courses
    • 3 hours PBSI 107 (PSYC 2301) -can be transferred from a junior college or accepted via AP/IB credit
    • 3 hours PBSI 235 (PSYC 2330) -can be transferred from a junior college
    • 6 hours PBSI neuroscience related coursework completed-Must be be graded from TAMU
      • excluding PSYC/PBSI 483/484/485/491
    • 4 hours BIOL 111 (TCCNS BIOL 1406) -can be transferred from a junior college or accepted via AP/IB credit
    • 4 hours CHEM 119 (TCCNS Chem 1411)-can be transferred from a junior college or accepted via AP/IB credit.
  • Double degree: Per Student Rule 14.4.5 – Courses may be used to satisfy the requirements for both degrees.
