Nazmoon Nahar Sumiya

Biography

Nazmoon Nahar Sumiya is a PhD student in the Department of Geography at Texas A&M University. She is the member of the GIScience for Resilience (GIResilience) Research Group and her research focuses on the multidisciplinary approach to investigating environmental risks, spatial inequality, and public health outcomes.

Prior to joining Texas A&M, Nazmoon earned her MSc in Pollution and Environmental Control with Distinction from the University of Manchester as a Commonwealth Scholar. She also holds both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Geography and Environment from the University of Dhaka, graduating with top academic honors.

She has served as a faculty member at the University of Dhaka, as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography and Environment. Her academic career has been complemented by significant research leadership, having led or contributed to several national and international funded projects in Bangladesh. Her work spans a range of topics including forest health monitoring, blue economy ecosystems, climate impacts on agriculture, sustainable water remediation during COVID-19, and the environmental implications of industrialization.
