Biography

Jared Hanson-Park’s research focuses on the scientific realism debate in the philosophy of science and on the philosophy of Bertrand Russell. Because the scientific realism debate involves questions of scientific knowledge, evidence, and metaphysics, he is also actively interested in these topics. “Structural Realism and Agnosticism about Objects” (Global Philosophy, 2023) provides two major arguments in favor of his favored version of epistemic structural realism, which promotes an agnostic attitude towards unobservable objects, and distinguishes this view from other extant views in the scientific realism debate. “The Preservation of Thickly Detectable Structure: A Case Study in Gravity” (European Journal for Philosophy of Science, 2024) argues that this version of epistemic structural realism can provide an account of the preservation of structure through theory change, using the shift from Newtonian gravity to general relativity as a case study.
