Stephen H. Daniel

Stephen H. Daniel works primarily on 17th and 18th century philosophy. He has written five books, authored more than sixty articles, and edited three volumes on modern philosophy and contemporary continental thought. His publications include articles on George Berkeley, Baruch Spinoza, G. W. Leibniz, John Toland, and Jonathan Edwards, and two edited collections of essays on Berkeley. His newest book (George Berkeley and Early Modern Philosophy, 2021) on how Berkeley’s philosophy relates to modern philosophers (including Hobbes, Descartes, Malebranche, Spinoza, Leibniz, and Bayle) is published by Oxford University Press. He is past president of the International Berkeley Society, and is currently senior editor of Berkeley Studies. Recipient of numerous teaching and research awards, he is a Texas A&M University Presidential Professor for Teaching Excellence and University Professor in Undergraduate Teaching Excellence.
