Established in 2012 and known as “Oscars of Science”, six $3 Million Prizes awarded annually in mathematics, fundamental physics and life sciences. This year Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics ($3 Million) awarded to more than 13,000 members of the ATLAS, CMS, ALICE and LHCb Collaborations at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider for detailed measurements of Higgs boson properties confirming the symmetry-breaking mechanism of mass generation, the discovery of new strongly interacting particles, the study of rare processes and matter-antimatter asymmetry, and the exploration of nature at the shortest distances and most extreme conditions at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider.

Among the laureates, twelve are current members of the Texas A&M University CMS team: (Devin Aebi, Muhammad Ahmad, Towsifa Akhter, Konstantin Androsov, Antimo Cagnotta, Stephane Cooperstein, Valeria D’Amante, Ricardo Eusebi,  Jason Gilmore,  Evaldas Juska, Teruki Kamon, Alexei Safonov) and 35 past Texas A&M faculty, researchers and students (of which 11 are currently faculty and 9 are scientists and researchers at universities and labs world wide).
