Undergraduate Academic Advising Services
The Department of Economics features a dedicated team of Undergraduate Academic Advisors passionate about supporting you throughout your educational journey. Academic advising serves as a collaborative partnership designed to help you turn your goals into reality. For those feeling stuck or uncertain about how to begin, the advising office acts as a primary resource for finding answers and navigating the undergraduate experience.
Economics students are not assigned to a specific advisor and may meet with anyone on the team.
The Advising Office is in Suite 103 on the first floor of the West Campus Social Sciences Building (WCSS).
Advisors cannot meet with parents/guardians due to FERPA.

Academic Advisors
The advising team is a great resource for you throughout your undergraduate academic career. Your advisor will explain degree requirements, help you develop a realistic plan to graduate, and evaluate semester course load options. Additionally, your advisor will enforce Texas A&M, College of Arts & Sciences, and Department of Economics policies, procedures, and requirements.
Advisors provide a listening ear and connect you with academic and personal support programs.
You can also expect weekly emails every Monday packed with information including advising information, career and internship opportunities, upcoming events, involvement, and advising team planned workshops.
Your advisor will not be a decision maker - advisors give advice so you can make a well informed decision. Missed deadlines are not extended.
The Economics Advising Team only advises for the Economics degree plans. If you want to change your major out of Economics then you must either meet with that major's advisors or Transition Academic Programs.
Your advisor is not your assistant.
You use Navigate to schedule advising appointments. You register for your courses - advisors review degree plan progression and recommend course schedule options, NOT specific courses. Selecting specific classes is the responsibility of the student. Your advisor will provide information for you to conduct further research on your own.
Economics Advisors will not meet or correspond with anyone except the STUDENT regarding their academic record [see FERPA].
The Academic Advising team aims to prepare students for professional life as independent adults capable of effective problem-solving, meeting deadlines, and producing high-quality work. The undergraduate years provide a critical period for refining essential professional skills, including oral and written communication, time management, information literacy, and emotional resilience. This environment serves as a final opportunity to navigate challenges safely while fostering the growth necessary to excel in future professional roles.
