To change your major to Economics, your Texas A&M unofficial transcript must reflect that you meet ALL requirements below at time of application submission.
The Department does not hold applications for in progress classes. If you do not meet ALL requirements, your application will be automatically denied upon review unless you meet waiver criteria and submit a waiver request.
Change of major applications are submitted in Howdy using the "Change of Major" card.
The application process is NOT competitive and solely based on requirement completion - students who meet the requirements are admitted.

Students not meeting ALL requirements have an opportunity to apply to change majors to Economics by utilizing the Waiver Request in the Howdy System.
After carefully reading the Change of Major requirements for your desired degree, select the box indicating you are requesting a waiver for the program requirements and complete both essays.
Essay Text: Thoroughly explain your desire to major in Economics.
Waiver Text: Thoroughly explain why your application should be considered for approval despite not meeting the change of major requirements. Waiver Text should not be a copy/paste of the Essay Text.
Incomplete applications are denied and not automatically considered for waivers. It is your responsibility to know the requirements and your eligibility status.
- A waiver is a request and should not be treated as a guarantee
- Waivers are considered on a case by case basis, with consideration given to time to degree and remaining coursework
- Students with more than 75 hours but less than 90 hours at the time of application may submit a waiver.
- Waiver requests for missing or in progress coursework are automatically denied without review.
- A waiver denial is a final answer from the Department. Follow-up inquiries questioning the decision are not considered or answered.
