Academic Professional Track Faculty (Non-Tenure): Instructional Assistant Professor and Knowledge Development Fellow (TAMIDS)

The Department of Statistics (STAT) in the College of Arts & Sciences at Texas A&M University seeks one Academic Professional Track (APT) faculty position for appointment of Instructional Assistant Professor and will begin on August 1, 2025. This position also includes an administrative appointment as Knowledge Development Fellow with the Texas A&M Institute of Data Science (TAMIDS). This is a non-tenure accruing, full-time, 9-month appointment. Duties and responsibilities for this position will be split 50/50 between STAT and TAMIDS.

Statistics duties will include teaching 3 courses per academic year for both undergraduate and M.S. level courses as well as committee service that will complement or balance teaching duties and/or curriculum development. Duties for TAMIDS will include an administrative appointment as Knowledge Development Fellow, with an initial term of three years. The Knowledge Development Fellow will conduct training, consultancy, and educational research activities in Data Science under the direction of the TAMIDS Director within the TAMIDS Knowledge Development Laboratory u.tamu.edu/Knowledge-Lab. They will be responsible for delivering and developing short courses in Data Science for workforce and skills development; organizing and mentoring within TAMIDS student training and engagement programs; conducting consultancy and mentoring student consultants, as well as collaboratively developing research proposals related to and arising from these activities. This jointly supported position will help broaden collaboration between STAT and TAMIDS, and strengthen the STAT role in the ecosystem for Data Science and AI at Texas A&M.

Assistant Professor Positions Available

The Department of Statistics in the College of Arts & Sciences at Texas A&M University anticipates two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions to begin in August 2025. Both positions will be full-time, 9-month appointments. Completion of all requirements for a PhD/DSc degree in Statistics or a related field prior to beginning employment is required. The department encourages people from all areas of research to apply and is particularly interested in expertise in the broad areas of Spatial Statistics and Time Series, or in the areas Machine Learning, Data Science and Bayesian Computation. Evidence of interdisciplinary research and focus on computational aspects is a plus. In addition to conducting outstanding research, the successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise graduate students, and provide service to the profession. Excellent computing facilities are available, and highly competitive startup funding and starting salaries are anticipated.

Tenured: Professor and Department Head

The Department of Statistics in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications from outstanding candidates for the position of Professor (tenured) and Department Head of Statistics at Texas A&M University. This is a full-time, 9-month appointment which includes two months of summer funding.  The anticipated start date for the position is Aug 1, 2025, or as otherwise negotiated.

Texas A&M University is the second largest university in the nation with an enrollment of over 70,000 students. The University is a land, sea, and space grant university and was designated a Hispanic Serving Institution in 2022. The university is located in Bryan/College Station, a growing metropolitan community with a clean environment, attractive amenities, and a low cost of living.

The Department has a strong tradition of theoretical, methodological, computational, and applied statistical research. Faculty members have extensive transdisciplinary research collaborations with faculty in all 16 colleges and schools across campus. The Department has 30 research faculty members and 13 academic professional track faculty. Our programs have about 250 undergraduate students, 70 graduate students on campus, and 300 distance-learning M.S. graduate students. The Department seeks an individual with a dynamic and internationally recognized research program, a sincere commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, and proven leadership skills. The Department Head reports to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and is responsible for the Department’s administrative, budgetary, and personnel matters. Candidates must demonstrate a vision for supporting, directing, and enhancing the Department. Although department head will be the primary role of this faculty position, the successful applicant will also be expected to maintain a scholarly agenda as well as engage in teaching at a reduced load.

The position requires a Ph.D. in Statistics or a related field and a record of scholarship and teaching consistent with the level of Professor at a major research university.
