The Statistical Consulting Center (SCC) is the premier hub for statistical collaboration at Texas A&M University. Managed by expert faculty from the Department of Statistics, we bridge the gap between complex data and meaningful discovery. Whether you are in the early stages of a study or finalizing a manuscript, our mission is to ensure your research is rigorous, reproducible, and impactful.

Our Expertise

We provide comprehensive support across the entire research lifecycle:

  • Research Designs for Data Collection: We help you choose the most robust framework for your specific goals, including:
    • Experimental Designs: Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs), Factorial designs, and Crossover trials.
    • Observational Studies: Cohort, Case-control, and Cross-sectional designs.
    • Survey Methodology: Sampling strategies, instrument validation, and bias mitigation.
    • Longitudinal Studies: Designing protocols for repeated measurements over time.
  • Power & Sample Size Determination: Before you collect a single data point, we ensure your study is built for success. We assist with:
    • Power Analysis: Calculating the statistical power to ensure your study can reliably detect meaningful effects.
    • Sample Size Calculation: Determining the precise number of subjects or observations needed to meet your desired significance levels.
    • Attrition & Group Allocation: Adjusting for potential dropouts and optimizing randomization/stratification.
  • Statistical Modeling: Implementing advanced regressions, multilevel/hierarchical models, and Bayesian approaches.
  • Data Visualization: Crafting high-impact, publication-ready figures that tell a clear story.
  • Machine Learning & Predictive Analytics: Leveraging modern algorithms for data-driven insights.
  • Methodological Development: Tailoring bespoke statistical solutions for unique research challenges.

Simple, Transparent Pricing

We are committed to supporting the university’s research mission with a sustainable service model:

  • The "First Hour" Rule: Every project begins with a complimentary one-hour consultation—free for all university affiliates.
  • Department & College Partners: Consulting services are entirely free for all students (undergraduate/graduate), staff, faculty, and researchers within Supporter Departments and Colleges.
  • External University Clients: Following the initial free hour, continued support for external clients is available through a streamlined fee-based structure.

To sustain and enhance the SCC’s offerings, the following hourly rates will apply:

  • A&M System Members: $45/hour
  • External Non-Profit Organizations: $76/hour
  • For-Profit/Commercial Clients: $150/hour

Our Consulting Process

We follow a structured workflow to ensure your project moves efficiently from submission to solution:

A process diagram for the Texas A&M Statistical Consulting Center shows six steps: 1. Submit Request (with online form, project description, data files, and references; confirmation sent automatically), 2. Internal Review (SCC staff review request, assess project scope, assign consultant), 3. Initial Meeting (scheduled in-person or Zoom, discuss research questions, establish timeline and goals; first hour is free), 4. Statistical Analysis (implement robust methodologies, perform analysis, validate findings), 5. Results Sharing (share through meeting or email, discuss insights, provide report), 6. Finalize & Invoice (complete service, request acknowledgment, send invoice for paid projects after free hour). Each step is accompanied by an icon representing its activity. Collaboration & Recognition

As a collaborative partner, the SCC invests deeply in your project’s success.

  • Publications: For services resulting in scientific publications, we expect the SCC’s contributions to be recognized through joint authorship.
  • Grant Applications: For grant applications where our personnel provide significant preparation or ongoing analysis, we ask to be included for partial salary support.
