Personalized degree plan designating your chosen path of BA or BS Economics
The Economics Advising Team reviews the earned credit that Texas A&M has received and posted to your academic record to work up a degree plan. This degree plan is then reviewed by two more advisors for accuracy, however this is a process done by humans so human error may occur.
- Received transfer credit, dual credit, AP and IB credit will be marked
- Earned credit not posted to your A&M record will not be marked.
- It is a good idea to bring transcripts and test scores with you so we can update your degree plan prior to the lunch break when you will do course research and ensure you do not register for a course in which you have credit.
- AP Credit: PLEASE DO NOT accept AP Credit without talking to an Economics Advisor first because not all AP Credit will directly apply to an Economics Degree.
Suggested Schedule
After your degree plan has been through the creation and review process, the Advising Team creates a suggested schedule for your first semester based on your personal academic record with the credit you have completed or not completed. The Advising Team has worked closely with Departmental Leadership and faculty to identify the most appropriate first semester courses. Additionally, we have years of academic advising years of experience.
- Please Note: first semester freshmen and transfer students are restricted from enrolling in some classes [ex: ECMT 461] and due to restrictions, prerequisites and seat limitations your ideal schedule may not be possible. Please arrive to your NSC with a flexible and open mindset in regards to your first semester schedule.
Detailed Day 2 Schedule
The schedule tells you exactly when and where to be throughout Day 2 so you do not have to worry about writing details down during the presentation.

Online Orientation
All undergraduate students entering Texas A&M must complete Online Orientation. Part One will become available in early May for fall/summer admits and December for spring admits, and New Student and Family Programs expects students to complete it at least three business days before their conference to ensure the registration hold has been removed. Questions: please contact Student Life at nsfp@tamu.edu or 979.845.5826.
Texas Success Initiative (TSI)
Not all incoming students need to take the TSI Assessment Test, and many transfer students are exempt. Check your TSI status on applicant.tamu.edu within the Tasks to Complete Prior to Enrollment Checklist. Click on the Fulfill the Texas Success Initiative Requirements- If a red X is present, you will be blocked from registering during the NSC, so it is critical that you satisfy this requirement two weeks prior to your scheduled NSC date. Note that TSI information is not updated until at least 48 hours AFTER you register for your NSC.
- If you have further questions concerning the TSI, please contact the Academic Success Center at successcenter@tamu.edu or visit the website.

Optional Pre-NSC tasks to Complete
Foreign Language Placement Exam
- Students who intend to enroll for the first time in a college foreign language course, who have previous knowledge of the language, however acquired, and who have no college credit in the language MUST take a placement test to determine the appropriate course for their level of ability. The foreign language placement test also serves as a basis for credit by examination.
- Second language learners who take the Advanced Placement (AP) test, the College Board Achievement test, the International Baccalaureate test (IB) or the SAT II Subject Test in their foreign language of choice do not have to take the required foreign language placement tests, as the results of these tests may be used for placement, but it is highly recommended.
- Heritage language learners must always take the placement test, regardless of their scores on high school tests, because these tests sometimes are not a good reflection of the language abilities of those students.
- For more information, call 979.845.5144
Lab Safety Acknowledgement
- Some courses require students to submit a Lab Safety Acknowledgement (LSA) before registration is permitted. All NSC attendees must submit the LSA prior to their New Student Conference to ensure registration access. View instructions for completing Action Items in Howdy. If you need assistance, please contact the Aggie One Stop at 979.847.1787.
