Research Interests
Professor Kirkendall is the author of three scholarly monographs: Class Mates: Male Student Culture and the Making of a Political Class in Nineteenth-Century Brazil (University of Nebraska Press, 2002), Paulo Freire and the Cold War Politics of Literacy (University of North Carolina Press, 2010), and Hemispheric Alliances: Liberal Democrats and Cold War Latin America (University of North Carolina Press, 2022). He has been teaching Latin American and world history at Texas A&M since 1997. In 2007 he received the college-level distinguished achievement award in teaching from the Association of Former Students of Texas A&M University.
