History prepares students to thrive in our increasingly complex, globalized world.

The Aggie reverence for tradition adds depth to the study of history on our campus, in ways that are as unique as is the broader culture of Aggieland.  Learning from the past comes second nature to Aggies!

Our majors learn to explore broadly, to research deeply, to think critically, and to communicate clearly.  These skills prepare our graduates not only to join the globalized 21st-century workforce but to pursue the happiness and wisdom that come from a well-rounded life.

The History major does not offer a specific credential so much as it offers a general toolbox.  Employment in the modern professional workforce usually includes specialized on-the-job training.  The adaptive skills and multiple perspectives that the study of history imparts prepare students to acquire these in a wide range of careers in business, law, education, commerce, and government.

TAMU offers over one hundred undergraduate courses on peoples, ideas, and cultures from around the world and across the ages. Our faculty are devoted to developing students’ ability to understand how studying history can help solve some of today’s most pressing problems. To engage in the art of history is to tackle the challenges of the present.
