Biography

Research Interests

Tristan Krause is a PhD Candidate in the Graduate History Program at Texas A&M University. A native of northern Wisconsin, Tristan completed his Bachelor of Arts in History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2018 and worked in the Wisconsin State Assembly as a Legislative Aide before starting at A&M. Tristan’s broad research interests include 20th century U.S. military history and conflict archaeology. His Master’s Thesis examined the cooperation between the U.S. Army and allied civilian organizations to recover and identify missing in action (MIA) military personnel in Europe after World War II. For his dissertation, Tristan is writing an international history of post-World War II American remains recovery efforts in occupied Germany.

Outside of the classroom, Tristan is also a practitioner of MIA recovery operations. During the summer months, Tristan works for two U.S. Department of Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency academic partners, the University of Wisconsin MIA Recovery and Identification Project and the Cranfield Recovery and Identification of Conflict Casualties program. To date, he has deployed with these organizations to archaeological digs in Italy, France, Belgium, and Germany to help repatriate the remains of U.S. airmen lost since World War II.
