Biography
Dr. Uchenna Nwankwo is an oceanographer with the Gulf of America Coastal Ocean Observing System (GCOOS) and serves as a Assistant Research Scientist in the Geochemical and Environmental Research Group (GERG) within the Department of Oceanography at Texas A&M University. In this capacity, he conducts scientific analyses of oceanographic data, represents both GERG and GCOOS in professional meetings, and contributes to mission planning for high-frequency radar operations and glider deployments.
An International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) Category ‘A’ Hydrographer, Dr. Nwankwo earned his Ph.D. in physical oceanography from the University of Southern Mississippi. His research primarily focuses on sea level change and storm surge driven by tropical storms and hurricanes. He has also made significant contributions to the ongoing VDatum project, aimed at refining vertical datums over the inner shelf of the northern Gulf of Mexico.
