The Munnerlyn Astronomical Instrumentation Lab designs and builds instruments for telescopes around the world that enable the scientific studies of astronomers at Texas A&M and other institutions. Texas A&M’s membership in such large collaborations as the Dark Energy Survey, the Giant Magellan Telescope project, the Hobby-Eberly Telescope Dark Energy eXperiment (HETDEX), and the LSST Project, among others, is supported by the instrumentation designed and built by Dr. DePoy and Dr. Marshall. Primarily focused on developing innovative optical wavelength instrumentation for the world’s largest ground-based telescopes, the lab has a strong history of employing undergraduate and graduate students and frequently collaborates with many of Texas A&M’s engineering departments.
