Deadline to Submit: March 8, 2024 by 11:59pm.
Manuscripts will be judged by Creative Writing faculty or by outside judges in each genre. The Creative Writing Program reserves the right to withhold awards in any category should submitted manuscripts prove to be of insufficient quality. An applicant can win in only one category.
Only currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate Texas A&M students may enter the Gordone Awards Competition, and they must still be enrolled as of Spring 2024.
- Undergraduate Students can submit for 3 Genres: poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction.
- Graduate Students can submit for 2 genres: poetry and narrative (both creative nonfiction and fiction).
- Both Undergraduate and Graduate Students can submit for scripts (stage plays, film, audio) with ONE prize offered for this category.
- Only one entry for each genre category is allowed.
- Poetry entries must be no more than 10 pages. Each new poem should begin on a new page.
- Prose entries must be no more than 4000 words, double-spaced (up to three separate stories, if total word count not exceeded).
- Script entries must be no more than 25 pages (can include all script types, stage, film, and audio).
- All entries should be submitted in Word or PDF format using 12 point Times New Roman font and 1 inch margins.
- No name should appear anywhere on the manuscript.
- Winners will be determined by a panel of Creative Writing faculty and outside judges.
- Winners will receive a $500 prize and share their work at a public reading. Honorable mentions will also be invited to share their work at the public reading.
