Biography
Ray Leonard's research focuses on the intersections of Black and Indigenous literatures in Early America. His work has appeared in The Cambridge Journal of Postcolonial Inquiry and the James Joyce Quarterly. His current project, The Literature of Black and Indigenous Encounter in Early America, argues that Black and Indigenous authors appropriated Euro-colonial genres of New World contact to construct a distinct literary tradition that reimagined New World history as a series of Black and Indigenous encounters.
