Director of Graduate Studies

The Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) supervises the graduate program. Among other administrative responsibilities, the DGS chairs the Graduate Committee, supervises graduate admissions and recruitment, monitors graduate teaching assistants and their workloads, advises on the composition of graduate committees, and facilitates communication between graduate students and the History department leadership. Dr. Katherine Unterman currently serves as Director of Graduate Studies.

Associate Director of Graduate Studies

The Associate Director of Graduate Studies (ADGS) assists the DGS with supervision of the graduate program, serves on the Graduate Committee, oversees graduate student progress, and assigns teaching assistants. The ADGS also provides resources for graduate students interested in applying for grants and fellowships, facilitates communication between the History department and the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies (OGAPS), and provides academic advising to all graduate students. Dr. David Hudson currently serves as Associate Director of Graduate Studies.

The Director and Associate Director of Graduate Studies are the primary source of information on funding, academic requirements, and coursework. As the graduate program advisors, they can discuss academic, professional, and personal problems with students. They also serve the function of a committee chairperson for PhD students who have not yet selected one.

Graduate Professional Development Director

The Graduate Professional Development Director (GPDD) oversees graduate professional development activities and serves on the Graduate Committee. The GPDD is responsible for organizing workshops on topics related to the profession, reviewing job application materials and arranging mock interviews/job talks for students seeking positions, and facilitating the yearly graduate recruitment event. Dr. Jason Parker currently serves as the Graduate Professional Development Director.
