It takes a robust community of staff, faculty and students to execute day-to-day operations for Texas A&M University, one of the largest universities in the United States. As one of the campus’ largest academic units, the College of Arts and Sciences is home to more than 19,000 students and nearly 250 degrees and programs, requiring the coordinated efforts of many people working behind the scenes to make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible. Seth Crouch ’20 is one of those people.

As a former student, Crouch embodies the adage “Once an Aggie, Always an Aggie.” As an Arts and Sciences graduate, his journey from sociology major to human resources generalist shows why excellent individuals choose to “Be Here.”

“From the moment I set foot on the campus of Texas A&M University, I felt a sense of belonging that I had never experienced before,” Crouch said. “The rich traditions, the Aggie spirit and the camaraderie amongst students, faculty and staff were palpable.

“My journey at ArtSci has been nothing short of transformative. It’s a place where every class, every discussion and every interaction is an opportunity to learn, grow and contribute to the larger Aggie family. I am proud to be here and to continue contributing to the legacy of Texas A&M.”

Crouch began his Aggie journey as an undergraduate student in the Department of Sociology. He was drawn to the study of human behavior and societal dynamics from a young age. Majoring in sociology allowed Crouch to take courses that exposed him to theories and methodologies that explored social fabrics and societal phenomena. In fact, Crouch even minored in psychology to complement his journey into the human mind, hoping to learn more about how individuals and society interact and influence each other.

“The synergy between sociology and psychology provided a holistic perspective, enabling me to traverse the bridge between individual minds and collective societal narratives,” Crouch said. “The College of Arts and Sciences, with its interdisciplinary approach, provided the perfect haven for my academic pursuits. Here, I found a community of inquisitive minds, dedicated faculty and a culture that values exploration, dialogue and societal engagement. Every day at ArtSci is a rewarding challenge — an opportunity to unravel a little more of the complex puzzle that is humanity.”

Crouch’s passion for studying humanity led him to a career in human resources, where he applies his knowledge to help foster a more empathetic and equitable environment for all. He credits his sociological and psychological education with giving him a nuanced understanding of human behavior and societal context to nurture an inclusive and productive work environment. Crouch believes his role in human resources is his way to give back to the campus community that first nurtured him.

“Transitioning into a human resources role is more than just a career choice,” Crouch said. “It’s an opportunity to leverage my sociological insights to enhance interpersonal relations and contribute to the overall well-being and satisfaction of the staff and faculty who are the backbone of this esteemed institution. My aspiration is to create a space where individuals feel valued, understood and motivated to contribute their best to the collective mission of Texas A&M.

“Working in human resources at Texas A&M is cherished opportunity to give back to the Aggie community that has played a pivotal role in shaping my academic, professional and personal outlook. It’s about being a part of a system that not only educates the mind but also cultivates a culture of respect, integrity and selfless service.”

In addition to working in human resources, Crouch dutifully attends football games to round out his sense of belonging to the Aggie community. Crouch also makes it a point to support the tennis teams, which he describes as hidden gems that display just as much talent, teamwork and tenacity as other Texas A&M sports.

“It’s not merely about the sports,” Crouch said. “It’s about being part of a larger community and sharing the triumphs, the losses and the relentless Aggie spirit that propels us forward. My aspiration is to rally more support for our tennis teams, spreading the word about the fantastic talent we have on campus and nurturing a more inclusive athletic camaraderie among all Aggies.”

Ultimately, Crouch is a perfect example of how Texas A&M operates as a community — how students, faculty and staff each contribute to the success of every Aggie. Whether it be through learning, hobbies or work, each part of one’s process collectively constitutes the entire Aggie experience. Crouch completes each step of this process with passion, and Aggieland is better off for it.

“In retrospect, my decision to be a part of the College of Arts and Sciences has been one of the most rewarding choices of my life,” Crouch said. “It’s here where my passion found purpose, where my curiosity found avenues and where my aspirations found a home. The College of Arts and Sciences is more than just an institution. It’s a nurturing ground for intellectual curiosity; a crucible for character development and a bridge to a world of endless possibilities.”
