Biography

Dr. Restifo is an Associate Professor and Graduate Program Coordinator for Sociology at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. His research reflects his ongoing interest in social inequality and change, with a central focus on race/ethnic relations, immigration, and collective behavior. His research applies mixed-methods techniques to examine: 1) historical race/ethnic conflict and labor market dynamics, 2) contemporary race/ethnic and gender hierarchies in the economy, and 3) politics, institutional power, and state repression. Dr. Restifo regularly teaches courses on social stratification, race/ethnicity, advanced statistics, and theory. He earned his PhD and master’s degree in sociology from Ohio State University and bachelor’s degree in sociology and history from Arizona State University.
