Biography
Stephanie M. Ortiz studies racial and gendered inequality. Her dissertation examined the dimensions of identity-based harassment online and the strategies young adults develop in response. She focuses on the personal and societal implications of these pervasive experiences, and demonstrates how online harassment is part of the recurring and familiar daily practices through which racism and sexism persist. Publications from her previous project on racism in online gaming can be found in New Media & Society and Sociological Perspectives.
