Our outgoing graduate student, now Dr. Gemini Creason-Parker accepted a position with SUNY Potsdam as a PRODiG+ Fellow. As such, she will be a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice. She will be teaching 2 courses per semester and will have the ability to teach courses such as Media and Crime, Women in Criminal Justice, and Introduction to Criminal Justice. This is a small department with six full-time faculty that offers Bachelor's degrees in Sociology and Criminal Justice Studies.

The department is part of the Law Enforcement Training Institute designed to provide students with the opportunity to complete a rigorous police training course as part of their undergraduate curriculum. The Potsdam State University of New York also has a program where inmates at local correctional facility can get a Bachelors degree in sociology, thus, Dr. Creason-Parker will also have chances to teach through that program.

Potsdam is a small town near Canadian border in State of New York. Potsdam's population was about 15,000 in 2020; however, during the active semesters the population increases by about 8,000. Due to the number of students in Potsdam during the academic year, Potsdam was ranked as #7 most ‘Collegiest College Town in America’ by the Washington Post. Closest large cities are Ottawa and Montreal, Canada, both about 2-hour drive from campus.

Go Potsdam Bears and - congratulations, Dr. Creason-Parker!
