BS + MS in Statistics (3+2 Program) 

Well-trained statisticians are in high demand in various application areas including health and medicine, business, engineering, physical sciences, environmental studies, and government. The BS + MS (3+2) Degree Program enables ambitious and academically talented statistics majors at Texas A&M University to earn both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree within a period of five years after entering Texas A&M University as a freshman. Depending on the electives selected, a student completing this program will be prepared to enter:

  • Employment as a statistical analyst or as a data scientist;
  • The professional job marketplace for quantitatively trained professionals;
  • A career in secondary education;
  • A doctoral program in statistics, biostatistics, or in a related discipline, at Texas A&M or another university.

The BS + MS (3+2) program enables a Statistics major to earn both a bachelor’s degree (120 undergraduate credit hours in Statistics and a master’s degree (32 credit hours in Statistical Data Science within a period of five years after entering Texas A&M University. Students can complete the required credit hours for each degree without diminishing scope or quality of work. The scheduling of the graduate level courses is flexible since many of the MS electives are offered during the summer. A student completing this program will be prepared for employment as a senior statistical analyst or to continue to a Ph.D. program in statistics or a related field.

Students interested in this program will apply during the spring of their junior year and, if admitted, begin taking masters-level courses in the fall of their senior year with an undergraduate classification.

 Eligibility Requirements

Students interested in the BS+MS degree in Statistics must meet the following application criteria:

    • Currently seeking a BS in Statistics at Texas A&M University
    • Minimum of a 3.5 cumulative (overall) GPA
    • Successful completion of STAT 414, STAT 415, STAT 408, and one CSCE course

Admissions Requirements

    • Unofficial Transcript PDF (uploaded to the electronic application)
    • Resume or CV (uploaded to the electronic application)
    • Statement of Purpose (uploaded to the electronic application) – Describe your reasons for pursuing graduate study in statistics and your academic and professional goals in a statement no longer than two pages.
  • Two Letters of Recommendation – Letters of recommendation must come from an instructor/professor who can attest to your academic work. Please instruct your reference writer to submit their recommendation by completing the Department of Statistics Recommendation Form and uploading their letter of recommendation to the electronic form.

Deadline

The deadline to apply for admission to this program is June 1 every year. All application materials, supporting documents, and letters of recommendation must be submitted by this deadline to be considered.
