Angelique Gammon
  • Associate Professor of the Practice

Biography

Angelique Gammon teaches journalism studies in the Department of Communication at Texas A&M University. She joined the faculty fulltime as an instructional assistant professor in January 2018 after teaching as an adjunct since 2013. Her move to fulltime teaching coincided with the sale of the commercial printing and publishing company she founded in 1984.

Angelique brings the skills and experiences from her 35-year career as publisher of Brazos Valley Insite Magazine and founding partner of Insite Printing & Publishing into the classroom. She serves as classroom editor to her future journalist students, teaching the real-world skill sets needed for the profession. Students regularly travel outside the classroom to cover events and write news articles on a deadline. Magazine feature writing and Sports Reporting students write and pitch to local, state and national publications.

Angelique credits the professional experience she gained working for The Battalion, Texas A&M’s student newspaper, with making her a successful entrepreneur and publisher. She was recruited to play basketball for the Texas A&M women’s basketball team in 1977, but after being sidelined by a knee injury, she joined the newspaper staff working her way up from part-time reporter to editor. She graduated from Texas A&M with a B.S. in journalism in 1982.

Angelique’s goal is to build students’ marketable skills through hands-on classroom experiences that will serve them after graduation. She is a strong advocate for both the journalism major and minor, having seen firsthand how those skills enhance all career paths, whether students decide to pursue a career in journalism, continue in higher education or choose an altogether different career.
