Welcome to the doctoral program in the Department of Communication and Journalism at Texas A&M University. Here you will enjoy a supportive and dynamic environment of interdisciplinary training and research and teaching opportunities, all guided by award-winning faculty. As a center for multi-disciplinary research that attracts creative, boundary-crossing researchers, the doctoral curriculum in Communication is intentionally flexible to accommodate individual student’s interests and promote intra/interdisciplinary inquiry. Our program is designed to meet the needs of students whose interests transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries and to prepare scholars for research-oriented careers in universities and in the public or private sectors. We welcome students who wish to conduct innovative and socially embedded research on local, national and global issues that contribute to confronting the challenges of the 21st century and helping shape a more just and prosperous world through the study of communication in its myriad facets.

Our graduates are intellectually prepared to be academic professionals, as well as communication research specialists in non-academic contexts. Students and graduate faculty align their research interests with either the Humanities & Critical Cultural Studies division or the Communication & Media Science division. In our program, students acquire disciplined theoretical and methodological training, while they are also encouraged to experiment with courses across our curriculum.
