Introduction

My research focuses on identity and representation, diversity and inclusion within the workplace and immigration. I am interested in the representation of racial minorities and immigrants in the American entertainment media and the role these representations play in self-identity, collective identities and matters related to social justice. I am also interested in the role these representations play in the diversity and inclusion within the workplace.

Biography

I am a critical organizational communication scholar with an interest in issues relating to immigrant racial identity and representation in the workplace. My research focuses on organizational communication, employee relations, identity and representation, and diversity and inclusion efforts as they affect immigrants of color in the workplace. I am interested in the construction and performance of workplace identity by immigrants of color, the role of workplace identity in employee relations, and the representation of these identities in diversity and inclusion efforts by organizations.

Folu Seton graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Covenant University, Nigeria. She worked in digital advertising, public relations and corporate communications for several years before pursuing a Master’s degree. She graduated with a Master of Arts in Communication from University of Louisville, Kentucky. She is currently a PhD student in the Department of Communication at Texas A&M University. Her research interests lie within identity and representation, diversity and inclusion within the workplace, social justice and immigration. She is interested in understanding and exploring the identity and representation of racial minorities and immigrants in media and efforts surrounding diversity, equity and inclusion within the workplace. In the past, she has researched the role of reality television show, 90 Day Fiancé in the representation of immigrants. She has also collaborated on research work examining diabetes education in the Appalachian region and body weight misperceptions in the African American community.
