Biography

Jessica Havens earned her M.A. in Religion at Colgate University in 2012 and her B.A. in Art from University of Minnesota. She began teaching at Texas A&M in the fall of 2014 in the Religious Studies Program.  In the fall of 2015, she was awarded a joint appointment in the Department of Communication (now the Department of Communication and Journalism) and in the Religious Studies Program. She teaches courses on religious communication, religion and the arts, contemplation and meditation practices, and world religions. In these courses, she teaches students how to engage critically and respectfully with religion in its many diverse contexts and forms, particularly related to issues of communication. She has participated in and created study abroad and domestic field trip opportunities for students. She works closely with undergraduate and graduate students to supervise internships, independent studies, honors credit, and teaching assistantships.
