We have a new article published from KLAMS project! Journal of Research on Adolescence published the article titled “Parental Anger and Trajectories of Emotional Well‐Being from Adolescence to Young Adulthood” co-authored by Dr. Gabriele Plickert and Dr. Heili Pals. Dr. Gabriele Plickert first joined KLAMS project in 2014 as a post-doctoral researcher. She is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychology and Sociology at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
This article takes a life-course look at the effects of parental anger. Using both structural equation modeling and growth curve modeling this article shows that parental anger leads to anger in children in adolescence. However, in young adulthood, parental anger directly contributes to one’s self-derogation. Suggesting that in young adulthood, parental anger has been internalized and this internalization reveals itself in lowered positive feelings towards oneself. Also, the results show that the majority of the parental anger effect on child’s anger is through maternal anger rather than paternal anger.
