The College of Arts and Sciences gathered this week to celebrate its inaugural class of exceptional faculty, staff and students during its first Annual Awards Ceremony, held Tuesday (May 2) in The Zone Club at Kyle Field.
The event is the first in what will become a proud annual tradition for the new college, which was launched in September 2022 as a major priority outlined by Texas A&M President M. Katherine Banks in the Path Forward revisioning of the university. The ceremony was followed by a reception and photographs with Reveille.
Each honoree received a plaque and a monetary award.
Interim Dean of Arts and Sciences Dr. José Luis Bermúdez noted that the variety of awards illustrates the breadth and depth of the new college and creates cohesion and collegiality across disciplines by showcasing the strength and potential in working together at all levels to realize both individual and collective goals.
"I personally was struck by the range of accomplishments across the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences," said Bermúdez, Professor of Philosophy and the Samuel Rhea Gammon Professor of Liberal Arts at Texas A&M, in his welcome remarks. "I am confident that it will be many years before we run out of worthy award recipients."
Executive Associate Dean Dr. Mark Zoran emceed the rest of the ceremony, which was organized by the college’s faculty affairs team.
