Six College of Arts and Sciences staff members have been selected by Texas A&M University and The Association of Former Students to receive the 2024 President’s Meritorious Service Award, Texas A&M’s highest recognition for staff.
Yasa Rathnayaka, a Business Administrator I in Arts and Sciences Finance, and Dr. Kevin Wayne Scott Jr., Technical Laboratory Coordinator in the Department of Chemistry, are among 26 staff members announced March 27 by Texas A&M President Mark A. Welsh III as this year’s individual honorees. In addition, the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences Advising Team (Lisa Bowden, Shari K. Chambers ’16, Jennifer Fleming ’93 and Mitchell Reed, MAAE) is one of two teams recognized for 2024.
The six Arts and Sciences recipients will be celebrated along with their fellow 2024 PMSA honorees on Wednesday (April 10) during a Staff and Student Excellence Awards Ceremony, set for 3 p.m. in Rudder Theatre. Each will receive a $1,000 award, a commemorative plaque and a lapel pin.
Established in 1986, the President’s Meritorious Service Awards are presented annually to recognize outstanding staff employees, two outstanding teams and two outstanding supervisors for their meritorious service to the university. The program, which is sponsored by the Office of the President and The Association of Former Students, is coordinated by the Division of Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness.
In addition to meritorious staff, the event will recognize 2024 Community Engagement Award winners and Student Employees of the Year, one of whom is senior economics major Addi Tsirulnik '24, who has worked part-time since August 2021 as an office assistant in the Department of Biology.
All campus faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the ceremony and encouraged to RSVP by April 5. The ceremony will also be livestreamed.
