Sociology is the scientific study of human behavior, and is considered a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Major. It studies the larger forces outside the individual that affect people’s personal experience and lives. It also studies those larger forces themselves, such as families, organizations, social classes, ethnic groups, nations, and the world system.

The Texas A&M Sociology Department offers extraordinary opportunities in undergraduate education. The department has been recognized by the American Sociological Association as a national leader in quality undergraduate sociological training.

Pursuit of a sociology major opens up a wide variety of careers including criminal justice, pre-medicine, business, pre-law, and social work. For information about all of the different careers you can pursue as a sociology major see our Careers in Sociology Brochure .

For students interested in nonprofit and public service work, our Department has a 3-2 program in coordination with the Bush School of Government and Public Service so that you can obtain an undergraduate degree in sociology and a graduate degree in public service in 5 years.
