The Humanities & Critical/Cultural Studies division serves as a vibrant hub for exploring intricate intersections of democracy, media, culture, and society. At our core, we integrate theoretical and methodological frameworks from across the humanities and interpretive social sciences to promote democratic engagement, communication ethics, media literacy, and the ingenuity of human thought and action. We interrogate power dynamics and social inequities, as we cultivate deep understandings of historical and contemporary discourses, technologies, and practices.

Humanities and Critical/Cultural Studies faculty are scholars and practitioners passionate about fostering an inclusive, reflective, and engaged learning environment. We mentor students through research projects, study abroad experiences, and community engagement initiatives, preparing graduates to become thoughtful communicators, engaged citizens, and innovative leaders. We specialize in media studies, rhetoric, and organizational communication with foci including race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, power, politics, health, religion, and globalization.
